Our Story

Playhouse Discovery Center was founded by Aliya Yancey—a mom, early childhood educator, children's author, and passionate advocate for play.

With nearly 20 years of experience in early childhood and early intervention, our founder has seen firsthand how meaningful play helps children build confidence, strengthen developmental skills, and connect with others.  Playhouse Discovery Center was created to make those opportunities accessible to every family. 

Founded as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Playhouse Discovery Center is working to create a community-centered indoor play space in Prince George's County while bringing families together today through play pop-ups, a growing toy lending library, and local partnerships.

Our team believes that play is a powerful tool for learning, development, connection, and community. Every event, partnership, and family who joins this journey is helping build a place where all children can grow, explore, and belong.
